Existência de uma formação rochosa, a qual se encontra a um metro da superfície, quando na baixa-mar média de sizígia. Este alerta é de importância fundamental, pois neste posicionamento geográfico consta nas cartas como sendo uma região de nove metros de profundidade e encontra-se no rumo de quem investe para Abrolhos pelo norte.

De Garopaba à Santa Marta:

Do Farol de Santa Marta a Pinhal:

Do Farol de Santa Marta à Rio Grande não há fundeadouros. É uma das maiores extensões de praia do mundo. Só se desce para Rio Grande com ventos vindos do quadrante Norte. E só se sobe a partir de Rio Grande com a entrada das frentes frias vindas dos quadrante Sul (normalmente a frente fria se inicia do quadrante Oeste/Sudoeste e nos dias seguintes vai tomando a direção Sul e Sudeste). Essas frentes duram de três a quatro dias, tempo suficiente para chegar ao Farol de Santa Marta, onde iniciam os fundeadouros e abrigos. Já o vento norte e nordeste, que predominam na região, são mais duradouros que as frentes frias. Duram de sete a dez dias até a entrada da próxima frente fria.
